The Wildcats Ice Hockey Club (WIHC) in a nonprofit organization that was formed in the mid-2000's with only a Middle School and a High School Varsity team, however in 2011 it was re-organized and has been steadily growing over the last few years. The WIHC are member's of the ICSHL – Inter-County Scholastic Hockey League, ILQRMSL - Ice Line Quad Rinks Middle School League, and the ESL - Elementary School League based out of the Ice Line Rink in West Chester, Pennsylvania. The WIHC calls the Hill School in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, as their 'Home' as this is their Practice Facility. The hockey club teams will vary upon registration each year. The club strives to maintain at minimum 1 Elementary, 1 Middle School, 1 JV, and 1 Varsity team. And going forward after the 2015-16 season, a Girls team. In the past 4 years the club as added an Elementary and 2 Middle School team's. For the 2014-15 hockey season WIHC had 67 players don the Wildcats logo. This season the club is projecting over 100 players!
It is our intention in 2015/2016 to provide the following levels of play:
- Elementary (Kindergarten thru 5th Grades)
- Middle School (5th thru 8th Grades; 4th graders, *with the approval of WIHC Board and ILQR Middle School Commissioner.)
- High School (9th thru 12th Grades)
- Girls (7th thru 12th Grades)
- All programs above require full equipment.
This coming 2015-16 Hockey season the Wildcats' program will include 2 Elementary teams, 2 Middle School teams, a Girls team, and JV and Varsity teams with a total so far of 109 players. With the Girls teams' formation OJR will be combined with Boyertown to form the 1st ever Girls Ice Hockey teams at the respected schools. In the past the Varsity team has been combined with Pope John Paul HS and last season and this season OJR is combined with Phoenixville High School.
The Owen J. Roberts Wildcats Ice Hockey Club (WIHC) is a club team. We are not sponsored by the school and receive no financial backing from the school district. WIHC has acquired a 501(c)3 non-profit status in July 2015. The club also has of establishing a Board of Directors, responsible for the daily operation of the WIHC. Board positions are to be voted upon annually. All parents who actively have a child participating in the program are eligible for voting rights.
